Based in Cambridge, Massachusetts, String Therapy was founded to serve our senior population in local assisted living facilities. By recruiting young musicians to perform live music (mostly classical and folk) in-house, our goal is to bring joy and create a space of community and connection for the residents, who may experience stress or social isolation in their daily lives.

For senior care facilities in the Cambridge area, String Therapy is a wonderfully easy way to incorporate live classical music in their activity schedule, offering intimate performances that evoke memory, provide comfort, and foster human connection. And for young musicians, String Therapy is an amazing way to serve the community by sharing our musical talents. We hope to reach all nearby facilities that will have us!

Our Mission

Making musical connections

For many people, music is uniquely able to reawaken old memories and create new ones. Perhaps they used to play the piano, or perhaps their children did, or perhaps a particular piece was played at their wedding. It is a privilege to be able to evoke these memories.

We have even heard from a caregiver that someone who struggled to make new memories from day to day not only remembered a performance but spoke of it excitedly for weeks afterward. Such instances inspire us.

And this connection goes both ways. Part of our motivation for starting a group comprised entirely of youth was to provide an opportunity for our younger generation to interact and connect with seniors in our community, thereby raising awareness of the challenges we all face as we age and also appreciation for the ability to make a meaningful impact in their day.

Thank you for bringing music to our community. The residents love it and would love to welcome you back soon!
